Rational Beauty

The Beholder

Artist Julie Wolfe and PAN collaborated with photographers, writers, and artists across disciplines to reimagine the Rococo era as a mirror of our time—excess, carelessness, political unrest, and widening wealth inequity.

This large-format book unfolds as a cabinet of curiosities, with lift-outs, foldouts, and full-page spreads that create layered meanings on their own and in dialogue with one another. Concealment and reveal become part of the reading experience, inviting discovery through every turn of the page.

The design amplifies this interplay: typeset in Genath, printed on Munken paper, and accented with Favini gold inserts that echo the opulence of the Rococo. These material choices frame the book as both artifact and experience—an object to be read, touched, and contemplated.
